2 – Personal Skills and Experiences

Please use this space to detail your skills and experiences in general MSM and HIV intervention activities. For example coordination, peer outreach, edutainment activities and counselling etc.

I am currently working as a Preventive Facilitator in Medecins Du Monde. I organize and facilitate activities in Drop In Center, and also participate in Outreach activities. I give health education about HIV/AIDS, STI, TB, Positive Living and Hepatitis to MSM, TG, female sex workers and their partners. I am also one of the members of mobile clinic activity in which we go to our beneficiaries who can’t come to clinic and provide STI treatments and consultation. Some of them are working under pimps and they are not allowed to go to clinic. I also lead weekly MSM support group, focus group discussion and legal counseling session in DIC. I organize monthly Volunteer Peer Education Training and I am also one of the facilitators in the training. Organizing and facilitating in monthly Workshop and monthly Condom Party.

Now, I am also volunteering as an auditor in MSM self help group named Golden Queen. We are running some income generation activities. Our group joined with Myanmar MSM Network for technical advices. We are still under umbrella of MdM. In my country, MSM are discriminated from social environment. So, they are usually hidden, shy and afraid to live openly as they would like to live. I and our group visit their meeting places, befriend with them and try to empower them. We are under process of writing proposal and making a better group right now.

Before I am with MdM, I initiated and lead a Self Help Group named Decorator. The group is composed with youth, and some of them (including me) are HIV positive. We made a network with other NGOs and INGOs to provide capacity building training. After getting trainings, we organized health talks especially about HIV/AIDS in Basic Education High Schools by getting permission from head masters. Beside health talks, we also made quiz contests in order to get effective results. Moreover, we went to places such as Tharyarwaddy, Bago and Mandalay. We organized health talks and drama performance there. In Tharyarwaddy, we have subgroup of Decorator. I visited there every two weeks and discuss about their challenges and need. Then we solved the problems together. We also provided referral services for MSM who are in need of medical services and ARV treatment.

Above are my skills and experiences in HIV intervention activities and MSM activities.

I am a HIV positive MSM who is working in an organization which is working for MSM, TG and male and female sex workers. I am working as a Preventive for activities related with HIV and STI interventions. I would like to do more effective activities for our MSM and TG community. I want to share knowledge about HIV more broadly and want to help for their social problems, and want to fight against stigma and discrimination to MSM community. I want to promote knowledge of gender identity of MSM and TG. I want to work not only for the side of knowledge, and health education but also for their self‐esteem.

If I have a chance to participate in this program, I can become a good leader in MSM

community. My aims are to work my best to fight against stigma and discrimination to MSM and TG in Myanmar and I also want to work to reduce HIV and STI prevalence among MSM and TG in

Myanmar. I am planning to make a self help group which will be working for self‐esteem, health

education and support for MSM and TG, so I am sure that this program will be a big support for my dreams to come true.

4 – Future plan after finishing programme

First of all, I really want to participate in this program on behalf of my friends. If I were a successful candidate, I will be able to work better for promoting the quality of life of MSM and TG in Myanmar. I will conduct many workshops with MSM and TG by using the skills learnt from the program. I believe HIV prevalence will definitely decrease if young MSM can receive sufficient and proper sexual health knowledge, if community accept who we are, and if we know our right and responsibility. Yet, I need to upgrade my knowledge by getting chance to participate in this program.

I will use the learning and skills gained from the program for the benefit of MSM in Myanmar. I will especially focus upon self‐esteem, empowerment and life skills for MSM in Myanmar. Moreover, I will also use my skills and experience for TG, male and female sex workers. I expect to use my skills and experience not only MSM, TG and sex workers in my township, but also wider population over Myanmar. I will work my best for them to be able to build a sustainable self help groups among MSM, TG, male and female sex workers.

I will create my own style and approaches which will be suitable for my community based upon what I will gain from the program. I will also advocate with the community in order to eradicate stigma and discrimination upon MSM and TG. To raise the life style which is safe and fun for TG and MSM is also one of my lists to be done if I were a successful candidate in the program. I hope I can share my skills and experience not only within my organization but also other organizations and networks. Our self help group Golden Queen is in the forming stage, so I hope my experience and skills from the program will be a big help for the group too. I am also dreaming about a website which will be an online drop in center for MSM and TG firstly only from Myanmar and later, I will try to extend regional level.

I am sure that I can become a good leader not only in local level, but also regional and international level who is able to take the lead for the sake of MSM, TG, male and female sex workers.
